Nicola Blefari Milazzi (CNIT Director) gave an interview related to “Smart Cities” on Italian Radio24, talking about IoT and 5G experimentation at the port of Livorno, on 25th of October 2018.

He mentioned that ”a port is like a small, hectic city, in which dozens of activities, different but connected to each other, generate continuous movemnets of ships, trucks, goods and people that, even in a metaphorical sense, they define “a sea port””.

”Today, however, these activities are not very synchronized, and this leads to expectations, queues, waste of resources and energy.  In order to eliminate such negative effects, the Port of Livorno which is preparing to become the first of the 5 “living labs” of the European project COREALIS, as a part of the Horizon 2020 Program, aims to experiment with the digitalization of port operations thanks to powerful injections of the Internet of things and 5G technology, with the aim of making them more efficient and sustainable.”
