ALICE together with ICCS and the Greek Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks organised the Collaborative Innovation Day – “New Global Routes: One Belt One Road Initiative & TEN-T”, that took place on 6th November 2018 at the Greek Ministry of Transport and Communications, Anastaseos 2, Cholargos, 156 69. from 9:00 to 17:00 hours.

The topic of the Collaborative Innovation Day – “New Global Routes: One Belt One Road Initiative & TEN-T” was arround the fact that new global routes for trade and freight transport are continuously being explored worldwide. These include the One Belt One Road supported by a gigantic Chinese investment programme. Therefore, during the Collaborative Innovation Day, experiences and knowledge on these new routes, the challenges and opportunities for European Companies and the potential impact for freight transport in Europe were shared. Moreover, discussions on what extent, these new routes could have an impact in the way the Trans European Transport Network (TEN-T) is planned and which kind of technical improvements and upgrades would be needed to maximize the benefit took place as well.

The objectives of this Collaborative Innovation Day (CIDs) were:

  • To share an overview of the state of play of New Global Routes implications on trade and European transport.
  • To share and discuss achievements, challenges and opportunities addressed by new and ongoing projects/initiatives and start-ups in the field.
  • To discuss and agree on next steps and research and innovation.

The event attended by speakers from the European Commission, Port of Valencia, Port of Antwerp, Greek Ministry of Transport, JUSDA, KTZ Express, Shift2Rail, PEARL, Duisport, EVERIS, CIRCLE, and was benefited by the support and presence from a number of domestic players in the Greek supply chain, large logistics corporations, public or non-governmental organizations such as the Piraeus Municipality, the Region of Attica, PEARL railway operator.

Dr. Athanasia Tsertou, Senior Researcher at ICCS, from the coordinating team of COREALIS, moderated the session on Disruptive technologies and their impact on the OBOR Initiative. Representatives from the Port of The Future network were also substantially contribute to the fruitful discussions of the session, by presenting the advances on their projects.
