The Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) organised a workshop on 5G, which was held virtually on 3rd of June 2021, at 14:00 – 17:30 CEST, online via the Webex.

The event was focused on two themes – New Business Models and Value Chains and Innovation.

The aim was the invited stakeholders to share their insight on 5G New Business Models and Value Chains with a special emphasis on supply-chain diversification and its impact on competition.

The workshop consisted of two panel sessions:

  • Panel 1: Discussion on New Business Models, supply-chain diversification and its impact on competition (14.00-15.30)

In the first session, after introductory remarks by Jean Marie Mifsud, Co-chair of the BEREC PFT WG, the 1st panel discussion brought together experts in the possible supply-chain diversification that 5G may enable, such as Neutral Host Operators and Private 5G Networks.

  • Panel 2: Discussion on the anticipated pace of innovation (16.00-17.30)

The second session featured a 2nd panel that discussed issues related to the anticipated pace of innovation in 5G services moderated by Bert Klaassens, Co-chair of the BEREC PFT WG. This session was joined by experts in the field of 5G Verticals and emerging trends, such as Digital Twins and Block chain.

Participants attending the event were able to send questions to the speakers beforehand by indicating them in the registration for or via email to workshop@berec.europa.eu. There was also the opportunity to ask questions through a chat function during the event.

Dr Paolo Pagano, Director of Joint Laboratory CNIT/AdSPTS, described the work carried out within COREALIS project towards seeking to increase the efficiency and safety in the port of Livorno area.
