The 6th International Physical Internet Conference 2019 (IPIC) was held in Church House, Westminster, London, between 9th-11th of July 2019. Colleagues from I-SENSE GROUP of ICCS, SEABillity Ltd, CNIT & MOSAICFACTOR were attending the IPIC conference and representing COREALIS project.

           

Aim of the conference was to provide researchers, industry representatives, government officials and citizens with an open forum in order to give them the opportunity to together explore, discuss, introduce leading edge concepts, methodologies, recent projects, technological advancements, startup initiatives, for current and future Physical Internet implementation. The topics of the conference consisted of interconnected logistics, PI fundamentals, business models, governance and implementation, cross-chain control, synchromodal transportation, IT systems, stakeholders and their roles.

COREALIS has been represented in IPIC2019, through the presentation of two papers and one poster (Poster is available here). Papers were related to Sustainable port development: towards the Physical Internet concept and RTPORT: the 5G-based Model-Driven real Time Module for General Cargo Management respectively, while the poster was targeted to Big Data and Data Analytics for the Ports of the Future.

    
Mr. John Kanellopoulos, member of COREALIS’ coordinating team of ICCS, presented the concept of Physical Internet in the context of Future Logistics and how this concept paves the way towards the Port of the Future vision for sustainable port development, during the ‘’Ports and Hubs as the PI Cornerstone’’ session (presentation is available here).


Dr. Angelos Amditis, Research Director of ICCS, moderated the session of “Smart Containers, Intelligent Cargo & Digital Infrastructure” where disruptive technologies like IoT, 5G & AI and their strong effect in all aspects of the Supply Chain sector were discussed. Within this session the paper ‘’RTPORT: the 5G-based Model-Driven Real Time Module for General Cargo Management’’ was also presented by Mr. Alexandr Tardo from CNIT (presentation is available here).
